La belle France

I love travelling, I am so lucky; my parents work in tourism, so I have traveled to Brazil, Peru and Argentine with them and I have known beautiful places! However I would like to go a too far-away country: France.

I dream with a long travel, far from everyone, be alone against the world, be alone fighting for myself for be understood. My childhood friend went to United States in an exchange school and, after a nervous crisis because she did not could communicate her for a long time, she learned English perfectly!

I don't know a lot of France, I would like go there to learn French and I would like know its culture, its way-life. I have seen some pictures and I think that their landscapes, its architecture, are wonderful.

If I go to France, I will go to Musée du Louvre, to Château de Versailles and, obviously, to La Tour Eiffel!

It would be fantastic to study in France, a classic sociologist: Émile Durkheim is from there. I hope go in a exchange, next year o in a few years!

Más Christmas!

Although Christmas has as origin the famous birth of Jesus Christ in the Christian people, it is possible to find different traditions around the world closer to this date and with a similar content.

Rather than talking about the Christian origin of Christmas, I would like to say the festivities are manifested in different places, becoming the Christmas a big making, where it is possible to see local traditions mixed with this Christian tradition. Christianity brought together popular creeds of folklore and make a tradition that remain for many years already.

Christmas, for me, represents, rather, the need for union, to meeting in a group. Of course, there is consumerism, the collective madness for gifts and other things, but also we have families who have time to dinner together, to hug, to celebrate and to be love each other. This is the way I celebrate Christmas, I could not imagine it without my family sitting at the table, without jokes and laughs, without hugs and kisses.

I like Christmas because it gives time to be with loved ones, probably life of today with its speed does not usually give us time to converse, to look into the eyes, to smile or even to be.

Well, I hope you enjoy this so easy: to be, to be with time and desire, be in full with your loved people  J Merry Christmas!

Bye bye holidays!

My first expectation for this semester is to have a breakdown. Second, maybe I will have intense and crazy holidays. And third, in April probably I will be crying for stress.
I am taking just the necessary subjects: Theory sociologic I and II, Economy II, Statistic III, Qualitative Techniques I, Epistemology and English IV; I would like to take Art's sociology, but our schedule changed, actually I think it would have been too hard to have other subject more because I took a painting course on Saturdays to relax me, but it is making me the opposite.

Well, I think is obvious how I feel studying in summer, but I want be clarify I feel so bad no precisely for my holidays, is the time for be with my family that hurts me, my brothers will not be in Kindergarten or in School, maybe my parents will not have a lot work. Chiefly, Christmas time... I don't know how people who doesn't live in Santiago they will.

What things I would like to do in class? I don't know, maybe it will be better if I don't expect anything, maybe that way, something surprise me!  

 

A picture is worth a thousand words

I love this picture, I took in my house while children were playing, and I think is a funny picture because they did not understand yet how they must be for a picture, so they were very separate, not smiling and even they looked a bit forced!

The picture shows my brother, Benjamín, and my cousin, Martín. Benjamín is who are in the right side and Martín is in the left side, they are in a Benjamin’s room.  The relationship of Benjamín and Martín is a bit unusual, my family and I always laughing thinking how it will be in the future, Benjamín is Martín’s uncle and they have just a year of difference! Maybe they will fall in love with a same girl, maybe they will go to a parties together, maybe one of them will defend to other one, maybe they will be best friends, I do not know! Recently, my mother and my sister registered them in the same school garden and always when they see themselves only play between them, people say they are very close, I love that J

That room I painted when Benjamín has not born yet, because my mother wants a funny and colorful room for him. I searched in the web animal’s drawings and one day I started to paint. I chose the wrong paint, latex, and my house smelt too badly for too many days after that I finished. This wall takes me three days, but it was so great, I love paint!

I took this picture because I have not taken any picture of them, and my family always says the pictures was losing, nobody takes pictures now, nobody has picture’s album. How nobody reveals photos, pictures are only in the computer and I think it demotivates to take photos.

TV serial

Although the role of the TV serial have in society is often the entertainment, it also show us our society as it is. In the Middle Ages, only the jester could laugh of the king, in our society, the TV serial does some similar: show us our weaknesses, our absurdities, our problems. TV serials are specifically diagnostic of us, and that can like or dislike someone; some serials TV are too heavy, too boring, too raw, too false, whatever.

I have a favorite TV serial, maybe it is favorite TV serial of many people because it is very popular! My favorite TV serial is The Simpsons.

I considerate that The Simpsons is the best TV serial because it speaks about all society’s topics like education, politic, environmentalism, family, etc. through a typical American family: a couple married since years with three children that live some like a “normal” life. In addition, Springfield, city where The Simpsons live, represents different social groups and interests that are constantly related.

I often watch this TV serial with my brother in my house when I have time, I try to have time because is the moment to laugh and comment the episode! I really love this TV serial because it help me to spending my time with my family J

My favorite piece of technology!

My favorite piece of technology is my new laptop, I asked to my parents to buy me this laptop because the old laptop that I had was too heavy and big for carry it every day to university and this year I was thinking that is better to write my lessons in Word than in my notebook because I can send it for email to my partners when they didn’t go to the class; well, for all that I explained, my father bought me a new laptop in May, and then I had just a one problem: to write all my notebook’s subject again, now in my computer.

Anyway, I don’t use my laptop just for write my lessons, I use it for a lot of thing. When I am in class, if I don’t understand something that teacher said, I look for in internet (if Wi-fi is working) and I clear up my doubts. I used my laptop everyday: when I am in my house, my little brother ask me to watch videos of animals in Youtube, I always have to look my Mail! And I must admit: I use it to play too (I am really addicted to a game called CakeMania! jajaja).

I really love my laptop because is very portable and it doesn’t put hot when I use it hours and hours , I think I can live without it but probably my life would be very different, today technology is very necessary for people (and obviously for students), nevertheless we must set some limits.

The best place for find things that you need for resolve all your problems at 1 am isn’t only liquor store, the best place is in internet and every student must know it. Its link is www.catalogo.uchile.cl , probably you see it when you going to use a computer at library. Catálogo is an institutional database of University of Chile Bello created in 1994 that have near 900.000 items and, that I most like, works 24 hours of day!

This website allows search in any faculty of university: books, thesis, journals, etc. The searching you can do it putting topic, name of author, title of document or title of journal, also you can specify library that you know wherein is book, you can put in order according to author, topic, title, relevancy or date too.

Other functions of Catalogo Bello are students can regularize their accounts, renew borrowed books and booking other. Also here you can find other websites, like Cybertesis, which are very useful too. I visit this website everyday when I go to library o when I do a work.

A important fact is that if a book that you are searching isn't in your faculty, you can ask for this book and they will carry it to your faculty J

Films

Entertainment or stress could be reasons for watch movies at the cinema or just at home, with friends, with family or alone, the pleasure of watch films can be in different ways, but always will be a thing that we like.  Can be a romantic movie, action movie, scary movie, fiction movie, doesn’t matter the gender, the movies make us go out our reality. 

My favorite film is Big Fish, based on a novel with the same name; this movie was directed by Tim Burton and incorporates elements of magical realism. Principal actors are Albert Finney as Edward Bloom, Jessica Lange as Sandra Bloom (Edward’s wife) and Billy Crudup as William Bloom (Edward’s son). With a budget of 70 million, the film shows beautiful landscape and great effects through the plot that revolves around Edward’s fantastic life; magic, mystery, uncertainty and charm was summarized in a one character, Edward, I love that, also this movie brings back good memories because I watched with my friends when I was in the school ♥

I don't want tell you more about this movie; I prefer that you will watch it, you will not disappointed!

My name is Stephanie, I'm nineteen years old and I'm a sociology student at University of Chile.

I was born in Santiago in a beautiful family, my parents Marco and Marisol and my brothers Evelyn, Felipe and the little Benjamín.

I have lived in my childhood in Alhué (a little town near Rapel's lake), Melipilla and, now, Maipú.
